PAUL AND SUSAN KNOX
Kaleidoscope Artists
Paul and Susan Knox began creating kaleidoscopes in 2002 after deciding to leave the corporate life to pursue a more stimulating, fulfilling path by turning his woodworking hobby into a home based business. Paul’s education is in mechanical engineering and he worked the most recent years of his corporate life in the semiconductor industry. Susan earned a BS in biology and spent the two years prior to beginning their kaleidoscopes venture working with a volunteer organization that educates the community on horticulture and environment issues. They desire to share their talents by creating unique art work and growing long-lasting, high integrity friendships.
Paul’s love for woodturning was inspired by his father, himself a master turner. In fact, Paul’s interest in kaleidoscopes began with a scope made by his father. Paul’s wood skills, glass skills, and mechanical engineering background are evident in the precise, innovative designs and image quality he puts into each kaleidoscope. He has woven his new found fascination for glass into his pieces both inside and out. Susan’s passion for nature inspires them to use managed and recovered woods as well as practicing recycling in their work and business practices. Nature also influences the color schemes she selects for the images.
From their home in a rural suburb of Dallas, Texas, Paul sculpts his kaleidoscopes using unique woods and at times incorporates glass and other interesting materials to create distinctive exterior designs. Susan combines their lamp-worked glass, polymer clay, and metal art while balancing color, form, and texture to create fluid patterns for an exquisite mandela. Particular attention is given to how light plays off the objects and magnifies colors and patterns. Their scopes mesmerize new as well as seasoned collectors. Whether your favorite scope is a smaller hand held version or a one-of-a-kind or limited edition piece, the same love and attention to detail goes into each facet of their design.
These artists believe kaleidoscopes are vessels for opening the mind. So discover all the nuances of your new kaleidoscope and explore new dimensions. Caress the wooden body and experience the smoothness and tactile nature. Escape into another world as you visualize the dancing movements floating past your view. Energize your mind, soul, and spirit as you expand your imagination with endless possibilities. Let go of all preconceived notions and let yourself be free to enjoy and be a “kid”, no matter what your age.
”As artists, we hope that our personal expression through our kaleidoscopes brings you great enjoyment and a break away from your daily routine for many years to come.” |
